As in my Notebooks, I like to let the ink bleed through the paper – allowing me to work on both sides of it – the stain left from one work can become the starting point for something new. The paper acts as skin, a screen, and the drawing becomes a sculpture. Sometimes they are displayed in metal frames with hinges, allowing the viewer to walk around and see both sides. In exploring surfaces, I also like the idea that there is a side that cannot be seen – we know there is something there, but it is submerged beneath the surface of the page.
